Each year the Everglades Edge and the Picayune Nature Club participates in the Florida Forest Services' Festival in the Woods event.
We as a vendor in the forest demonstrate biking and hiking in the woods and bring out bikes for cross country riding and give complimentary tours around the area for those wishing to see the strand from a cycling perspective. We are also there to talk with those wanting to know more about the forest.
The Picayune Nature Club provides a venue for those that seek to help the Picayune strand forest become the best it can be. Helping to control exotic plants and other pests is a very important aspect for that success. Eradicating these plants and species such as melalueca trees and pythons is of utmost importance and the picayune nature club has programs for volunteers to join and help and not just for exotic control but other things too.
We will get out early on certain days for work details and other activities, please stay tuned.
See Picayune Nature Club.org for how you can join and help.
We are sponsoring another event promoted by the Picayune Nature Club that shows outdoor natural and cultural art works depicting the local natural places around Southwest Florida. The two day event offers free camping, music, 3 juried art categories and a orienteering hiking style event around the woods.
A day of nature appreciation featuring bike riding, archery, throwing and outdoor fun. Music, drinks and refreshments for all. Fund raiser for the Picayune Nature Club non-profit.
Visit the Tour de Picayune web page for registration and more information about this yearly event.
The Picayune Nature Club has workshop gatherings at the Edge every few months or so.
We explore topics and discuss in detail the plants and animals of Picayune Strand and surrounding areas and share our knowledge and experiences of what we've found and learned through the past couple of months and beyond.
We meet 4 times yearly at the Edge learning center off Snake Rd in Picayune Strand. See the Picayune Nature Club website and it's sister sites,
